I heard this term a few times while taking an online course, HDE 100 – Apache Hadoop Essentials. I took the course in order to acquire at least a beginner’s understanding of what Hadoop and MapR are. Hadoop is a system that processed big data, while MapReduce is like the algorithm used in processing.
Here is the first sentence from Wikipedia on Sentiment Analysis:
Sentiment analysis (also known as opinion mining) refers to the use of natural language processing, text analysis and computational linguistics to identify and extract subjective information in source materials. Sentiment analysis is widely applied to reviews and social media for a variety of applications, ranging from marketing to customer service.
The overall goal of sentiment analysis is to find the “sentiment” of the user/customer’s opinions and thoughts. Here is an article about Sentiment Analysis in action.
I literally got this text from a reddit post in the body of an email that was in my Spam folder. Here is the post. Thank you, inspiring Spam sender. What was the motivation to send the Spam?
I can’t say enough good things about this tutorial, which explains how to create a WordPress theme from scratch. It is THE THEMESHAPER WORDPRESS THEME TUTORIAL: 2ND EDITION. This was found after Googling “base wordpress theme.”
A couple things liked and learned:
Microformat – The entire HTML Structure post was useful, and one subject learned was that of microformat. Wikipedia describes it “A microformat (sometimes abbreviated μF) is a web-based approach to semantic markup which seeks to re-use existing HTML/XHTML tags to convey metadata and other attributes in web pages and other contexts that support (X)HTML such as RSS.” The ThemeShaper explanation is easier to understand. In the context it was used here, it was referencing using the “hfeed” class on the page div of a WordPress page. The hfeed class is part of a specific Microformat schema called hAtom. Because it is part of that schema, it can be used by search engine bots and other services to identify what the content is.
ARIA – ARIA is a set of attributes that you can add to HTML elements.
Don’t forget about a source for test data – Theme_Unit_Test
Futurice is a Finnish company developing online- and mobile software (Wikipedia.) They had a blog post called “Programmer Proverbs” linked from Hacker News. I initially ignored the “Proverbs”, which were text contained within images (I suspect this was done for some reason. I also noticed the images has “screen-shot” in the file name.) After clicking the “We’re hiring” link at the bottom of the page, two positions that I checked out were Data Scientist and Full Stack Web Developer. To be a Data Scientist you should have experience applying advanced analytical methods, such as predicting consumer behaviour, data mining, machine learning, developing algorithms. Googling “advanced analytical methods predicting consumer behavior” actually brings up a Scholarly articles section on top of the search results. Scholarly articles is a Google search function. Also, have experience with big-data technology such as Apache Hadoop, Spark, Impala, Hive, Pig, MapReduce.
With the Web Developer position, you should be able to connect to a REST API
. The Web Developer position links to a blog post that talks about the “5 steps to a great application
.” The gist of the post is, in regards to how to devise a job application, be sure to tell who you are, what gets you excited, and what your values are. Don’t just put your skill, because you want a company that wants more than that.
